One reason my year was so amazing was because of YOU- the loyal and lovable clients who helped shaped 2016 as the best to date! I feel like this year broke the mold.

Today, I want to share my top three favorite images from 2016 and why they were my faves!

#3. Super Fam

I met the Ball Family- Lindsay, Danny and little man Grady- for their family fall session this October. We shot downtown at the South Main Arts District, a favorite spot of mine, because they wanted to capture the artistic essence of their old home town of Austin in their new hometown of Memphis. At the end of their session, mom asked for a few images in their awesome super hero capes because let's face it, who doesn't want those? Danny proceeds to scoop up little Grady and let him soar through the streets, stopping villains in their tracks! Grady's face filled with joy and the street echoed with his laughter. It seems like mom is being left out of the fun but really she was letting her boys have their moment. It reminded me of when I watch my husband and son spending time together. It's a precious feeling. I know Lindsay is as proud of her boys as I am of mine.

#2 - Sing it out

On such a winter's day, Ashley and I wandered into a field and snapped a few photos. Ashley had just gone through some very difficult times with the loss of a loved one. I asked if she wanted to do it not expecting her to agree but she did think she needed to get out of the house. Plus she was working on her music career and needed some headshots. She gave me free creative reign and went along with whatever I suggested. For the first time in months, I saw Ashley smile, be playful and focused on something besides her grief. I feel like this photoshoot was oddly cathartic for her, the image symbolic of how we feel when we "sing out" our frustration and anger. I purposely edited the photo to give it a vintage effect, more true to her personal style. The barren trees and beautiful wheat grass made a perfect frame and the sunlight illuminating her hair was a great effect. To me this image is perfect in all it's imperfections. It shows the soul.

#1 - Cool as Coca-Cola

My favorite image this year is of Miss Kylee, one of my favorite subjects, in a styled shoot her Mama requested for their Spring photos. Everything about it, from the funky yellow chair, to her attitude, to the glass bottle coke screams coolness to me. This photo embodies what I strive to convey- that no matter what props may be in the photo, you are the one who makes it! You're uniquely you, there isn't anyone like you on the planet. Embrace it! Own it! Work it! Don't fain away. Don't be shy. Don't let the lens intimidate you. Don't let anyone else dull your shine. Ever!
