This year, I've decided to share personal thoughts from time to time on the ole blog.
Last week, my boys and I went to check out a potential shoot location for an upcoming session. Most people love a blooming Spring or gorgeous Fall backdrop but there's a quiet beauty to the Wintertime that appeals to me. It was particularly warm that day (almost 70 degrees!) thus the lack of coat and hat.
Call them resolutions if you want, but every year I make a list of goals to accomplish and this year was no different. For 2017, I also made a promise - that I would shoot true. True to myself. True to my style. True to my subjects. True to my soul. I'm having to relinquish some control in order to do this (which is so against my grain) but I know the benefits will far outweigh the sacrifice. All this time I've been shooting what I thought was expected of me. And to a degree that's true for any photog, we want to make our clients vision come to life and make them happy. That part of me will never go away. However...
Photography is my profession and my passion. It gives me fulfillment. So, with that said, be looking for a more open, honest, soulful side to my work. My first shoot true shoot was this day when I was trying to capture a sincere look at my son and husband. I plan to document him more than I already do because he's growing so fast! Everyone warned me that would happen and it's, well, the truth!
Thank you to Joe and Gabe for standing in the "itchy grass" to let mom take a couple pictures. Today also happens to be my husband's birthday! Happy Birthday to Joe, my strong and steady, my unwilling model and best friend to both me and Gabe. xoxo
On a side note, the first leg of my personal project is underway! I can't wait to share it with everyone! Squeee!
